Grace Ann Hitchens, 87, of Millsboro, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 21, 2025, surrounded by her loving family in her home.

Born in Frankford, DE, on March 17, 1938, Grace was the daughter of the late I. Clifford Mitchell and Madelyn (Lowe) Mitchell. She was a proud graduate of John M. Clayton High School, Class of 1956.

Grace had a fulfilling career, working for NCR and M&T Bank before her retirement. She was an active member of Hickory Hill Church in Millsboro, DE and enjoyed bowling for over 30 years with the Delaware Women's Bowling Association. Grace also dedicated her time to volunteering at the Gumboro Fire Hall and was a board member of the Gumboro Community Center.

In her leisure time, Grace cherished moments spent with her family and pursued her passions of quilting, sewing, playing cards, and gardening.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Vernon J. Hitchens in 2019; a brother, Don Mitchell and brother-in-law, Gerald Hitchens and his wife, Linda. She is survived by her five children, Richard J. Hitchens and his wife, Donie of Gumboro, DE, Micheal Hitchens and his wife, Pamela of Millsboro, DE, Mark A. Hitchens and his wife, Peggy of Millsboro, DE, Steven C. Hitchens of Dagsboro, DE and his companion, Saleicha Baksh and Beverly Ann Truitt of Frankford, DE; two stepchildren, Jennifer Elliott and Jillian Mullins; two brothers, Van Mitchell and his wife, Neva and Chad Mitchell and his wife, Tami; a sister, Joan Tribbitt and a sister-in-law, Beverly Mitchell. She also leaves to cherish her memories, seven grandchildren, Hillary Graves and her husband, Chip, Beth Evans and her husband, Nate, Heidi Hitchens and her companion, Brian, Heather Lecates her husband, Thomas, Hannah Hitchens, Travis Truitt and Blakelyn Murray and her husband, Billy; nine great grandchildren, Allie Graves, Caroline Evans, Charlotte Evans, Noah Lecates, Wyatt Lecates, Liam Murray, Lilly Hitchens, Abel Fitzwater and Rylee Fitzwater and several step great-grandchildren. Grace is also survived by her brothers-in-law, Paul Hitchens and his wife, Norma Lee, Denny Cordrey and his wife, Debbie; sisters-in-law, Barbara Scott, Thelma Banks, Janice Robinson, Bonnie Abbott and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

A visitation will be held from 10 AM to 12 noon on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at the Frankford Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 43 Thatcher St., Frankford, DE 19945, where a funeral service will begin at 12 noon. Interment will follow at Carey's Cemetery in Millsboro, DE.
