Grace Martin

 

Grace Lena Martin, 83, of High Point, NC, peacefully entered eternal life on December 11, 2023, at Shannon Gray Rehabilitation in Jamestown, NC.

Born in Bennettsville, SC on April 5, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence Johnson and Martha Johnson.

Grace was a long-time resident of High Point, where she settled as a young woman and was a great housewife and housekeeper. Throughout the years, she raised her children and grandchildren until she was unable to.

After retiring from that she lived her best life. She enjoyed going to family gatherings and talking about the experiences of her life and parents with her church family and friends.  She was a devoted member of Solid Rock Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Alphonso Martin and First Lady Martin, whom she loved dearly. She blessed the congregation each Sunday with her rousing and heartfelt singing in the choir.

Mrs. Grace was known for her fresh collard greens, tasty sweet potato pies, mouth-watering biscuits, and many other delicious dishes.  She loved cooking for friends and family and spending time with them. Anyone who visited was never to leave without some sage advice, a wholesome meal, and a full plate of food to take home and enjoy. There were numerous family dinners and cookouts with good food, music, fun, and laughter throughout the years.

Mrs. Grace had a quick wit and a quiet demeanor, but anyone who knew her knew that, although quiet at times", she had a commanding presence. She did not mince words and showed tough love and wisdom gained through her life experiences. She touched many lives during her time here on earth. Her strength and tenacity will live on through successive generations, and those whose lives she personally touched will carry her wise words with them always.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Martin; three children Richard Crouch, Mary Grace Crouch and Kenny Harris.; two brothers, Lawrence Johnson Jr. and Joe Johnson one sister, Sarah Johnson.

She is survived by nine children, Brenda Crouch, Jonny Crouch, Linda Harris, Deborah Harris, Chris Harris, Doris Crouch, Joyce Crouch, Timothy Martin and Ronnie Martin; five sisters and three brothers, Francis Thomas Jackson (Marty), Lorraine Whitfield, Helen Johnson, Doris Bostic and Ella Carter (Willie) Curtis Johnson, James Johnson (Sarah) and Jessie Johnson also 18 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and very dear friends.
