Alice Johnson Obituary

Alice Marie Hill Johnson, 93, of High Point, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2026. Born on September 18, 1932, she was a lifelong resident of High Point in Guilford County and a beloved matriarch to her family.

Alice was the devoted wife of 35 years to her husband, Bobby Johnson of High Point. She was a loving mother to her daughters, Janice Elkes and her husband Robert, and Teresa Elkes; bonus sons Bryon Johnson and Jeffrey Johnson. She is also survived by her sister, Carolyn Sue (Susie) Hill, and her brother, Carson Hill and his wife Nancy.

Affectionately known as "Memaw," Alice took great pride and joy in her grandchildren: Heather Mitchell and her husband Jon, Marty Elkes Jr. and his wife Kat, Alison Bundy and her husband Danny, Joshua Elkes and his wife Kim, Stephanie Bullard and her husband Brandon, Katie Strickland and her husband Trey, and Sarah Williams and her husband Chris. She was further blessed with 14 great-grandchildren: JD, Brandon Jr., Jackson, Emma, Tripp, Hailey, Maggie, Taylor, Hunter, Savannah, Ella, Stella, Carter, and Harper, each of whom brought her immense happiness.

Alice had a zest for life that was evident in the little things-especially her love for driving her Chevrolet Caprice, proudly displaying her license plate that read, "Let me tell you about my grandchildren." Her family was truly her greatest joy.

A woman of strong faith, Alice attended Hickory Chapel Wesleyan Church and was raised at Providence Wesleyan Church in High Point. She loved singing soprano in the church choir and participating in annual cantatas, sharing her love of music and worship with her community.

Alice dedicated many years of her life to her work as a furniture upholstery seamstress, retiring at the remarkable age of 76. She was known for her diligence and strong work ethic. In her personal time, she was a meticulous gardener who found peace and pride in tending her flower and vegetable gardens with her husband Bobby. She cherished traveling with her four sisters. Alice also faithfully served her community for many years by working at local voting precincts.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Russell Hill and Bernice Cashatt Hill; her brothers, Lloyd Hill Sr., Clifford Hill, Leon Hill, and JC Hill; her sisters, Lydia Furr, Frances Spainhour, and Gladys Layton; and her son-in-law, Marty Elkes, Sr.

The family will greet friends from 1:00 until 2:30 p.m. on Friday, March 20, 2026, in the sanctuary at Hickory Chapel Wesleyan Church at 301 Hickory Chapel Road in High Point followed by a funeral service at 3:00 p.m. officiated by Reverend Carson Hill. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Teresa and Heather for the compassionate care they provided to Memaw during her final years. They also express deep appreciation to Liberty Hospice for their exceptional support and care.

Alice had a special love for flowers, especially pink ones. If desired, memorials may be made to Liberty Hospice to support other families in need of end-of-life care.

Alice will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family, her deep faith, and the joy she brought to all who knew her.
