Grace Marie Matthaei

Grace Marie Matthaei, 95, of Jupiter, Florida passed peacefully on Monday, October 19, 2015 at Courtyard Gardens in Jupiter. She was born in Bayonne, NJ to Grace and John McCarroll, then moved to Roselle. She graduated from Roselle High School and attended the University of North Carolina. Grace was married to William F. Matthaei on January 15, 1941 and lived in Edison and Lavallette, NJ. She was a communicant and taught 4th grade for 25 years at Saint Cecelia's Elementary School in Iselin, NJ. Grace loved being a teacher and continued her career teaching 7th grade at Saint Joseph's Elementary School in Toms River, NJ. She was a dedicated volunteer with the Lavallette First Aid Squad, the Senior Citizens Organization and she also worked in the beach badge office during the summers. Upon retirement, Grace and William moved to Jupiter, FL where they were communicates of St. Jude Catholic Church in Tequesta, FL. Grace happily volunteered for 10 years at the Jupiter Medical Thrift Shop, continuing her dedicated service to the community. Grace was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, William; brother, John (Madelyn) McCarroll; sister, Barbara (Carl) Sterner; brothers-in-law, Gene Hammell and Ed Hammell. She is survived by her sons, Richard (Michele) Matthaei and William (Veronica) Matthaei Jr.; four loving grandchildren, William (Jennifer) Matthaei III, Jessica (Frank) Doss, Christopher (Courtney) Matthaei, Richard (Rene) Matthaei Jr.; five wonderful great-grandchildren, Zebastian Doss, Grace and William IV Matthaei, and Christopher Jr. and Calli Matthaei. There will be a visitation for family and friends on Friday, October 23, 2015 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at St. Jude Catholic Church in Tequesta. An entombment will follow at Riverside Memorial Park in Tequesta. In lieu of flowers donations in Graces' memory may be made to the Jupiter Medical Center, 1210 S. Old Dixie Highway, Jupiter, FL 33458
