GRACE E. SHANOWER
Grace E. Shanower went to her Heavenly home peacefully, on June 27, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was 87. She was born September 2, 1935 in Greensburg, Ohio to the late Thomas A. Hirschman and Irene A. McCallister. Together with her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Harold Hirschman; sister, Viola Rouch; and great-grandson, Grayson Rice.
A lifelong resident of Greentown, Grace graduated from Greentown High School. She was Stark County Softball president for 50 years, past president of UMW, a member of Lake Grange for over 50 years, and a life member of Greentown United Methodist Church. She worked in the catering business for 40 years. She truly exemplified the meaning of her name, Grace, in her daily life.
Cherishing the wonderful memories are those who survive; her husband of
69 years, Kenneth Shanower of Greentown; daughters, Vanessa (Joe) Houshour of Louisville, Theresa (Karl) Bowen of Perry, Sharon Hedrick of Greentown; son, Thomas Shanower of Canton; grandchildren, LeeAnn, Thomas, Karl Jr., Allen, Diane, Melanie, Todd, and Austin; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth (Denny) Hughes of Florida; and brothers, Jerry (Jane) Hirschman of Florida, Richard (Sue) Hirschman of Canton, and Carl (Theresa) Hirschman of California.
Visitation for family and friends will be Friday, June 30, 2023 from 12:00 to 1:00 PM, Greentown United Methodist Church, 3088 State Street,, Greentown, with the service immediately following. Reverend Amy Shaw will officiate. Interment will take place at Greentown Cemetery, Greentown.
