Dewayne Steelman was born on December 5, 1951 in Blanchard, Oklahoma. Dewayne left this earth on Friday, January 16, 2026 in Chickasha, Oklahoma at the age of 74.

Dewayne’s parents were Grady E. Steelman and M. Estelle Brashear Steelman. Dewayne grew up in Tuttle, Oklahoma. As a small child, Dewayne had a love for farming. When his Dad started working in Oklahoma City as a carpenter, his mother would work the ground and plant in the fields. She would place Dewayne on a blanket with toys to plow and plant as she worked in the fields.

Dewayne was the fourth of six children. He had a heart for stray animals, and you often found Dewayne bringing them home and giving them the love he felt they deserved. His animals were his companions. Dewayne provided his animals with a loving home. His kind heart and love for his friends, family and animals were evident in his kind spirit.

Dewayne’s first job as a young boy, age 13 or so, was delivering The Daily Oklahoman. He rolled and delivered papers on his bicycle all throughout the town of Tuttle. Sometimes there would be a football game across town where Dewayne would stop and play for a few minutes. However, it would not be long, and Dewayne would be back to work delivering papers. It was pretty common to find the pet crow, Willie, following Dewayne around town during his delivery route.

Dewayne’s second job, at age 15, involved him milking cows and doing farm work for the Osborn family, which he dearly loved. He loved the animals and working in the dirt. The Osborn family was very instrumental in encouraging Dewayne to get an education.

He graduated from Tuttle High School in May 1970. Following high school graduation, he attended Murray State College for two years and finished his Ag Economics degree at Oklahoma State University. Dewayne was a true Cowboy fan and loved Cowboy football.

During his last year of college, Dewayne took flying lessons. His love for flying resulted in him getting his pilot’s license after college. He enjoyed going up in the air for an occasional flight.

After college, he moved to Irving, Texas where he worked in sales and later retired from Pizza Hut.

His knowledge is insurmountable when it comes to sports, sports stats and farm equipment.

Dewayne’s love for the Lord was unwavering. Even in his final days, his kind spirit and ability to make new friends and bring joy to others is uplifting.

Dewayne is preceded in death by his parents, Grady and Estelle Steelman; his sister, Neva Janelle Richter; sister and brother-in-law, Bobbie and Farrell Shatwell; niece, Dawn Howard; niece, Tina Richter; great niece, Landrie Turner.

Dewayne is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Reford and Barbara Steelman; sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Jackie McDonald; sister and brother-in-law, Beckie and David Turner; brother-in-law, George Richter; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
