Stephen Riley Obituary
Steve was known to many as Bodacious or Rilo. He lived a life filled with passion, purpose and heart. He was an accomplished athlete, coach, educator and mentor. From an early age, he fell in love with sports, but basketball was his passion. A proud graduate of Lenape Highschool, he made history as the school's first-ever 1,000-point scorer- a record that stood for decades. His talent, determination, and competitive spirit earned him induction into the school's Hall of Fame, solidifying a legacy that inspired athletes who followed. He continued his basketball career at Murray State University, where he competed at the collegiate level and deepened his love for the game that shaped so much of his life. After college, he found his true vocation- not just playing the game but teaching it and living it. He began a meaningful career as a teacher and coach, eventually settling at Lower Cape May Regional Highschool. There he became more than an educator. He built lasting friendships with colleagues and was deeply admired and respected within the school community. He enjoyed skiing, tennis, golfing, being outdoors and quality time with family and friends. Summer days were best spent by the pool with great music blasting. He has been to countless concerts, creating many memories. He and his companion, Betsy had fun spending days down the shore as well as going to the movies. Above all, he was most proud of being a father. His family meant the world to him, and he will be greatly missed.
Devoted father of Erin E. Kessler (Dennis, Jr.) and Stephen Keyler Riley. Loving companion of Betsy Leon. Cherished grandfather of Greyson and Ainsleigh Kessler. Dear brother of Harry Riley and Karen Turnbow (Cecil). Former spouse and friend of the late Ginny Riley (nee Keyler). He is also survived by his in-laws, Dennis, Sr. and Sharon Kessler, as well as many extended family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
