Grant E. Buce
02/26/1943 - 01/21/2026
Grant E. Buce passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, after a long illness. He was 82. Grant was born on February 26, 1943, in Pine Tree, Texas, to Nell I. Buce and Carl E. Buce, Sr.
Grant grew up in Pine Tree, attending local schools and graduating from high school in 1960. He enjoyed his childhood in the piney woods-hunting in the river bottoms and skiing and fishing with his brother and friends on Lake Cherokee outside of Longview. The family also shared many fun-filled barbecues at the park next to their home.
A natural leader, Grant served as president of his high school graduating class. He graduated from Kilgore Junior College in 1962 and completed his undergraduate studies in accounting at the University of North Texas in 1964. After college, Grant spent summers employed at Hudson Engineering in Longview to fund his education at The University of Texas School of Law. He earned his Juris Doctor in January 1969 and later completed his CPA certification in 1974.
After passing the bar exam, Grant moved to Houston in 1969. He began his legal career with a small Houston firm before joining Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co. in the tax division. After a year, he joined Texas Commerce Bank as a trust officer, where he met the love of his life and future wife, Cinda.
In 1977, Grant left the bank to become a partner at Linscomb & Williams, Inc. He greatly valued his partnership there and the lifelong friendships he formed. Grant realized his true calling when he founded his own wealth management firm, Founders Capital Management, Inc. in 1995. He deeply loved his work and his clients, and he was so pleased to have his son-in-law, Will Oliver, join the FCMI team in 2018.
With gratitude, Grant was thrilled to celebrate Founders Capital Management's 30th anniversary in April 2025, surrounded by friends and clients he cared for deeply. Their well-being was always his priority, and his commitment to a life and practice grounded in character and integrity continues to shape the firm today.
Grant believed strongly in serving and enriching the communities in which he lived. He served on the board of the Southampton Civic Association and later initiated and supervised a tree-planting project along Inwood Drive. After moving to The Lamar Tower, he served on its Board of Directors and as president from 1996 to 1997.
In retirement, Grant enjoyed time spent with his family, from weekly Sunday dinners to relaxing weekends at his home on Tiki Island, which was truly Grant's happy place. For years, he and Cinda spent nearly every weekend there enjoying time with great friends, fishing, boat rides, golf cart rallies, burgers, margaritas, and the slower pace of life.
Grant especially loved being "Papa" to his grandchildren and delighted in watching them learn and grow. He was a fixture on the sidelines of their many sporting events, cheering them on with pride-just as he had years earlier at his daughters' games, famously coaching from the bleachers in his signature bow tie.
Grant is endlessly loved and missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nell and Carl Buce, Sr., and by his brother, Carl Buce, Jr. and sister in law, Barbara Buce. He is survived by his beloved wife, Cinda; his daughters, Melissa Kathryn Buce and Natalie Buce Oliver and her husband, Will Robert Oliver; and his two cherished grandchildren, Elizabeth Pipes Oliver and Grant Hopson Oliver.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate caregivers from Your First Care for the loving attention and kindness they showed Grant in his final years.
A memorial service will be held at The Church of St. John the Divine on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to The Church of St. John the Divine, the Houston Area Parkinson Society, or a
