Mr. Gary Haley, age 81, peacefully entered eternal rest on Tuesday, August 26, 2025. Gary was born on December 22, 1942, in Lexington, Kentucky and raised by the late Mrs. Ernestine Thompson--affectionately known as "Teenie". He attended the Fayette County Public Schools System. At an early age Gary joined Main Street Baptist Church and professed an unwavering love for Christ and held steadfast to that love until his homegoing. His mother, Mrs. Teenie, would take Gary and childhood friend and neighbor Kentucky State Representative - George Brown to church every Sunday when they were small boys. Representative Brown recalls fond memories of looking up to Gary like a "Big Brother" and his protector. Gary attended Russell Elementary School and graduated from the original Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School in Lexington, KY, Class of 1961. Gary served in the United States Army with an honorable discharge. After serving his time in the military, he returned home and joined the workforce until his retirement. On July 17, 1975, Gary was united in holy matrimony to Lillian McGuffey Haley. Their marital union was blessed with a blended family of three daughters, and two sons. He was a member of the Men's Usher Board, Main Street Baptist Church Clothing Bank Ministry, a "Living Legends" 70-year plus membership, a member of the Senior Adults Society and oftentimes you would find Gary assisting his loving wife and others with the Main Street Feeding Ministry. Gary was a fun-loving, loyal, positive, and jovial individual-a jokester. He was always energetic and enjoyable to be around. He enjoyed basketball, football, and listening to jazz musicians. Further, he collected ceramics figurines and refrigerator magnets. After an extended illness, Gary entered his eternal rest with Christ Jesus on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky surrounded by his devoted wife, family and dear friends. Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife of 50 years-Lillian McGuffey Haley; sons Darrell Haley, Anthony (Monique) Haley; daughters, Sheila Rene Haley, Vanell (Johnny) Vincent- White; an extended family--four sisters-in-law, Crystal McGuffey, Ruth Ann Clemons, Olivia ("Libby") McGuffey, Margaret (Otis) Martin; brother-in-law Tyrone McGuffey; special family friend and assisting caregiver Amber Hall. He also leaves to mourn his passing and celebration of his life generations of grandchildren, nieces and nephews as well as a host of other relatives and many dear friends and a loving church family. Preceding him in his eternal life: his mother Ernestine Thompson, daughter Demecia Shanta "Rock" Haley, brothers-in-law Clifton McGuffey Jr., and Tommy McGuffey. Bro Gary served not only as a husband, but also as a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, confidant, and a true friend who has touched our lives immensely. His memory shall forever remain in our hearts.
