On May 14, 2025, at 2:55 a.m., Gregory Francis Boan, 55, passed away peacefully in his sleep at McLeod Hospice House in Florence. Greg was diagnosed with early onset dementia three years prior to his passing.
Greg was a 1987 graduate of Bennettsville High School where he was a star athlete in both baseball and football. He won the "Strong Man" award as a Senior for being able to bench press over 300 pounds. As an adult, he loved cheering on the Gamecock girls in basketball, as well as following both baseball and football teams. He attended many University of South Carolina games throughout the years.
Greg was a volunteer for Marlboro Rescue Squad from 1989 until 1996. He worked for Horry County EMS from 1992 until 2001. In 2001, he became a full-time employee for Marlboro County Rescue, and worked alongside his brother, Jeff, until 2023 when he could no longer work because of his illness. Greg worked diligently to earn certifications as an EMT, EMT-I and Paramedic. He strived to be a top Paramedic, so he furthered his education to obtain Critical Care and Pediatric Paramedic certifications. He gave outstanding care to thousands of patients for more than 35 years. Greg's most proud accomplishments were his two daughters, Mary Alexa Boan and Wimberly Grace Boan, whom he talked about constantly and loved dearly. He enjoyed watching them play sports, and he never missed a chance to cheer them on at every activity.
Greg leaves behind to cherish his memory; daughters, Alexa and Wimberly Boan; siblings, Jeff Boan and Joy Rankin (Mike); three nieces and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nathan Francis Boan and Nella Grace Crowley Boan.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Sunset Memorial Park, officiated by Rev. Dr. Scott Andrews.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that memorials be made to the McLeod Hospice House 1203 East Cheves Street, Florence, SC 29506.
