Greg Conery Obituary

Greg F. Conery, 66, of Cassopolis, Michigan, formerly of Mishawaka, Indiana, passed away at 2:37 a.m., Saturday, March 1, 2014, in Memorial Hospital. Greg was born on April 8, 1947 in South Bend to Harold "Red" and Selma (Szynski) Conery and was a lifelong area resident. He had been the owner of Benefit Resource Group. Prior to his insurance career he was a firefighter with the South Bend Fire Department, where he was a member of the dive team on Rescue 1. On January 17, 2004 he married Patricia Balok, who survives. Also surviving are his three children, Kelly (Ken) Sage of Granger, Indiana, Kevin "KC" (Denise) Conery of South Bend, Indiana, and Shawn (Lisa) Conery of Granger, Indiana; one step-daughter Kelly (Scott) Tope of Warsaw, Indiana; one step- son Ryan Balok of Florida; ten grandchildren, Ryan Conery, Brenden Conery, Nolan Sage, Casey Conery, Ashley Conery, Madelyn Sage, Michael Conery, Patrick Conery, Alexandria Balok, and Genevieve Tope. Greg was preceded in death by his mother and father, Selma and Harold "Red" Conery; and two sisters Pat Bikowski and Georgian Richardson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M Friday March 7, 2014 in St. Pius X Church. Those attending the Mass at St. Pius X should go directly to the church on Friday. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 until 8 p.m. Thursday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where Rev. Vito Rulli will offer a prayer service at 7 P.M. Greg was a member of the Achievement Forum, Ancient Order of Hibernians, and M.R. Falcons. Greg was referred to by his close friends as the "The Captain". He enjoyed boating, fishing, and Notre Dame football. He loved his children and grandchildren.
