Greg Denton, beloved son, brother, uncle, stepfather, cousin, and friend passed away Sunday, July 28 th, 2024, into the loving arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Greg was the first-born child of Constance M Denton and Charles F Denton, in Des Moines, Iowa, where he was loved and raised. He attended school in Des Moines, from elementary through high school, graduating from Valley High School, class of 1974. After graduation Greg attended Le Mars Beauty College, owned, and operated by his Uncle Rod and Aunt Sheila (VerHoef) Anderson. Here Greg found his passion for helping others feel and look their best. His tuition at the beauty college was discounted as the college found him to be a great enticement for recruitment of the many young ladies desiring to enroll in the cosmetology school. Greg loved the opportunity that was provided for him, enjoyed his fellow classmates, and made the most of the education and training he received. Upon graduating from beauty college, Greg honed his hairdressing skills, training with Vidal Sasson Academy. He gained experience and clientele working in prestigious hair salons in Des Moines, Iowa, Omaha Nebraska, and Aspen Colorado.
Greg made a name for himself in the industry as a hairstylist and
was well loved and held in high demand for his services. After many years as a hairstylist, Greg changed course and used his people skills and desire to help others by focusing on sales and marketing. In this profession, Greg enjoyed a successful career in several industries, working for employers offering products and services, including Fortune 500 companies. Greg was a goal driven professional, committed to developing solutions mutually benefiting the company and the customer. Recognized for his exceptional ability to develop solid business relationships, identifying, and capturing new business, growing his market base, and managing local and national accounts. During his career, Greg worked for AT&T Media Services, Printex Inc, Tesla Inc, and Ashley Home
Furniture Inc.
Greg met and married Sara Simms, in Hannibal, Missouri, where Greg enjoyed many years with Sara, her extended family and their friends. Greg became a stepfather at the time to Sara's three young children, Lisa, Audra, and Blake. He and Sara stayed busy and active with family, the kids' school, and extracurricular activities. After many years together, the children grown and granddaughter added to the family, he and Sara divorced and parted ways. He enjoyed and loved his stepchildren and granddaughter very much and spoke lovingly of them, staying in touch and missing them throughout the years, until his passing.
Greg led a full and abundant life, always tried to see the best in every situation. Even during the trying and difficult times he encountered in his life, he continued to put a smile on his face and maintained a positive, upbeat attitude. Encouraging others along the way and making friends wherever he was. He surrounded himself with people of like mind and did his best to see the good in people and offered help where he could. He had a great sense of humor, was funny and vivacious, he loved to sing and play guitar, often doing so in church and for family and friends. He was also a dance instructor with Arthur Murray Dance Studio and could dance up a storm and he was great entertainment at gatherings with family or friends. You could always count on him for an encouraging word or smile. One of his favorite phrases of encouragement, always said with his big smile was
"Rock On"!
