Gregg Verne Mjelde, 77 of Nevada, passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at Unity Point Hospital in Marshalltown.
Gregg was born November 7, 1946, in Seattle, WA, the son of Mayne Clarence and Sayde Josephine (Swindeck) Mjelde. He graduated from West Seattle High School in 1965 and furthered his education at Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA, graduating with a bachelor's degree in fine arts in 1969. Gregg served in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1970. On May 5, 1972, he was united in marriage to Linda Janell Keen at the First Lutheran Church in West Seattle, WA. To this union, two children were born, Brett and Fara.
Gregg was a devoted member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada. He loved to sing, play guitar and was an accomplished oil painter.
Gregg is survived by his wife, Linda of Nevada; his son, Brett (Carly) Mjelde of Council Bluffs, IA and their children, Colin, Charlotte, Andrew, and Ethan; his daughter, Fara Capman of Des Moines; his brother, Larry (Jerry) Mjelde of Gig Harbor, WA; and his sister, Denise Bates of Fairbanks, AK. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday, March 4, 2024, at East Ullensvang Cemetery near Thor, IA with Pastor Kathleen Lotz officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada in memory of Gregg.
In death, Gregg was able to be a tissue donor, which was fitting for his caring nature.
