Norma Senora Torgerson Mjelde, 98, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2025, in Sanford’s Hospice House, Fargo, ND. Norma was born to Theodore and Clarice Torgerson on October 3, 1926, in Lockhart, MN. The family moved to Beltrami, MN, where she attended school and received her education.
On August 4, 1942, she was united in marriage to Vernon C. Mjelde in Detroit Lakes, MN. After Vernon returned from the service, they moved to Seattle, WA, and lived there several years. In 1961, Vernon and Norma moved to Moorhead, MN, and became franchised dealers for Beltone Hearing Aids, from which she retired after 18 years.
She was active (past) member of the Moorhead Soroptimist Club and Trinty Lutheran Church. The joy of her life was when she became grandma to her two precious grandchildren, Todd and Angela Nolte and later Linh Ly and Thinh Nguyen came to the family.
Norma is survived by daughter, Cynthia (Gary) Nolte; four grandchildren, Todd (Laura Clark) Nolte of Wolverton, MN, Angela (Brian) Schulz of Moorhead, MN, Linh (Chung) Tran Highland Ranch, CO, Thinh Nguyen of Huntington Beach, CA; six great-grandchildren, Amie (Josh), Sarah, Sophie, Jenny (JJ), Hunter and Kobe; and two great-great grandchildren, Callum and Jocelyn; brother, Orlin (Jule Ann) Will; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; infant son, Sheldon Clay; daughters, Shanna (Robert) Vanlaningham, Becky (Clayton) Smeltzer; mother, Clarice Will; father, Theodore Torgerson; brother, Marvin (Rosemary) Torgerson; and stepfather, Otto Will.
Memorials will be given to Sanford Hospice and Trinity Lutheran Church’s Emergency Relief Fund.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., in Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church.
Interment will be at Scandia Cemetery, Beltrami, MN.
