Gregorio Velasquez was born in El Monte, California on May 9th, 1935. He was known to friends and family as "Greg" or "Goyo." His parents were Natividad Velasquez and Maria Jaso Velasquez. Greg's mother passed away when he was just 2 years old and his father would move with his 7 children to Oxnard, California.
Greg's siblings were Pauline, Mike, Nat, John, Margarito ("Meme"), and Maria Concha, all who have since passed away.
While a young man living in Oxnard, in 1955, Greg enlisted to serve his country in the United Stated Army having spent his service time in Alaska. It was not long after his return to Oxnard that he would meet the love of his life, the young and beautiful Carmen Grace Estrada.
It was on June 30th, 1962, that Greg and Carmen would unite in Holy Matrimony at Christ the King Catholic Church in the part of Oxnard area known as "La Colonia." Their marriage would last over 60 years.
Throughout the years, Greg would work at the Union Ice Company, Nabisco, Trim Roofing, and the Heublein Chili factory (also known as "La Chileria"), while Carmen would take on jobs to help with the family costs.
In 2005, Greg and Carmen moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico where Tony and Anna, and their families, also lived. Together, with his faithful dog "Chico," Greg and Carmen would live happily ever after in the Land of Enchantment until his passing at the age of 87. Greg and Carmen raised 5 children together: Greg ("Tony"), Steven, Anna, Joseph, and Abel. In 2019, Greg was reunited with his eldest son Cody and has since built a loving relationship with him and his wonderful family.
Greg leaves behind a multitude of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Among his grandchildren are: Darlene, Gabby, Stevie, Angelica (Spouse: Jerral), Alyssa (Spouse: Brandon), Danny (Spouse: Rosalba), Delia (Spouse: Devance), Phillip, David, Ivan, Fatima (in heaven), Abel, Anthony, Andrew, Jesse (Spouse: Vanessa), and Joaquin. His great-grandchildren are: Ryan, Ileen, Juan, Anthony, Jerral, Anaiya, Kiyana, Haliya, Jerome, Amrie, Elijah, Harmony, Johnathan, Felipe, Angel, Mateo, Julian, Emma, Brayden, and Kaylia. His great-great grandchild is Juan Velazquez.
Greg also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and beloved friends who he loved just like family.
Greg was a true gentleman, a good father, a devoted husband of over 60 years, a hard worker, a generous and peaceful man. Although there are no books on how to raise a family or be a good husband, all you have to do is look at the life of Greg Velasquez and learn from his example.
