Gregory Andrew Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by North Haven Funeral Home, Inc. on Jan. 14, 2026.
Gregory "Captain" Andrew, 78, passed away suddenly at home on January 10, 2026. He was the beloved husband of 59 years to Diane Andrew. Born in 1947 in New Haven, Connecticut, Greg was the son of the late Kenneth and Emily Andrew. He was predeceased by his brother Kenneth "Poochie" Andrew. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Mike Delucia. Greg married Diane Ross on November 26, 1966. That same year, he joined the United States Navy, serving as a corpsman with the U.S. Marine Corps. From 1967 to 1968, he served in Vietnam, where he took part in the Tet Offensive. After returning home, Greg and Diane lived in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, where he was stationed for the remainder of his military service. Greg and Diane settled in Meriden, Connecticut, where they have lived in the same home since 1978, building a life filled with family, friendship, and lasting memories. Their first daughter, Tara, was born in Maine in 1969, followed by their second daughter, Samantha, born in Connecticut in 1973. Greg dedicated 42 years of service to Montesi Volkswagen, retiring in 2012. In retirement, he pursued his lifelong passion for the sea, working as a captain for the Town of Essex, and later with Freedom Boat Club and yacht deliveries-earning him the nickname "Captain" that he wore proudly. Greg loved traveling, boating, time spent behind the wheel of his Jaguar F-Type, enjoying hot dogs, New Haven pizza and vacations on Cape Cod. He cherished time with his family, had a deep love of life, and seemed to know someone everywhere he went. His laugh was contagious, his generosity unwavering, and he could always be counted on to lend a hand. He was also an Amazon frequent flyer! Besides his wife Diane, Greg is survived by his daughters Tara (Peter) Gumprecht and Samantha Andrew, and his five adored grandchildren: Alex, Dusty, Calvin, Addie, and Cooper. The visiting hours will be Thursday, January 22nd, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at The Havens Family North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. A funeral service will be conducted at 10:30. Interment with full military honors will follow in the State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown.
