Gregory A. Carrigan

Gregory A. Carrigan, "Sweet Lou", 65. Unexpectedly his race was won, Wednesday, July 19th, 2023 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center.
He is survived by his loving wife, best friend and soulmate, Tiana Carrigan of Elmira; Mother: Margaret Carrigan of Elmira Heights; Son: Keith (Alicia) Carrigan of Elmira; Daughter: Kellie (Jamme) Green of Elmira; Son: Seth Carrigan of Elmira; Grandchildren: Rebecca, Meganlynn, Kaiden, Carter, Keegan.
Sisters: Deb (Joe) Shuster, Janet (Jack) Lai, Patricia Jerzak; Brothers: Jeff Carrigan, Doug Carrigan, Mike Carrigan.
Father and mother-in-law: Wayne and Elaine Mertz; Brother and sister-in-law: Dale and Brenda Mertz; Sister-in-law: Sanya Brown; Brother and sister-in-law: Bryden and Angie Mertz; along with many nieces and nephews.
Gregg is predeceased by his father Wayne and late wife Yvonne.
Gregg retired from Southport Correctional Facility after 31 years of dedicated service as a correctional officer. He took pride in being the fire safety officer and forging many friendships throughout his career. He was the president, promotor and organizer of the Southern Tier Enduro back in the 80s and 90s. He was also a lifetime member of the AMA and a member of the NYOA racing series. He loved a good race, a reliable race bike, a clean garage and looked forward to the next Sunday race. He was a member of the United States Amateur Confederation of Roller Skating from 1993-1995, where he competed in the national speed skating circuit winning many awards and almost making the Olympic team; He also became a volunteer firefighter for the Webb Mills Fire Department back in his younger years. He loved literature, writing poetry and was a gifted artist.
Family and friends are invited to gather at the Olthof Funeral Home, 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira, NY Wednesday, July 26th, 2023 from 1PM to 3PM and 6PM to 8PM, Thursday, July 27th from 10AM to 11AM. Funeral services will follow at 11AM. Graveside committal services to follow.
