Greg was born to John and Josephine Davitt on Christmas Day in 1959 making him the "Irish Twin" of his sister Roxanne who was born in January that same year. The family lived in Columbia Heights and welcomed two more sons, Mark and Michael, and daughter Lisa. They all went to church and elementary school at Immaculate Conception. Greg graduated from Columbia Heights High School in 1978. Following high school, he attended 916 Vo-tech for appliance repair and joined the family business. He later worked at Kostreba Appliance in St. Cloud and Lakeville Trucking in Roseville. He retired a couple years ago.
In 1991, Greg met Dale Bolin and they were married from 1995-2017. Together they had two children, Daniel and Meagan. Dale also had two daughters from a previous marriage, Cassandra and Amanda. They raised their family in Anoka.
Greg's happy place was wherever he could put a line in the water. Fishing was his passion. He was always excited to go after the salmon and lake trout on Lake Michigan. In the winter, you'd find him in his ice fishing house on Mille Lacs Lake. Red Lake was another one that lured him for walleyes and crappies.
When it came to sports, football was his game. He was a lineman in high school and a die-hard Minnesota Vikings fan a passion he shared with his godfather Uncle Billy. They both never gave up on their team.
Later in life, Greg tended to be a solitary man and found peace from his life's challenges in nature. Recently, he purchased a trailer that he parked at a friend's cabin in Cumberland, WI.
Greg is survived by his children, Daniel Davitt and Meagan Davitt; granddaughter Aurora Anderson, step-daughter Amanda Bolin; siblings, Roxanne (Gary) Current, Mark (Brenda) Davitt, Mike (Patty) Davitt, and Lisa (Mike) Adair; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-daughter Cassandra, and best friend, John Turner.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to relatives, friends and neighbors for their outpouring of love and support during this very difficult time. Thank you all!
