Gregory Joel Deas passed away peacefully at his home on December 23, 2025, with his devoted wife, Leigh, by his side. He was born in Mobile, Alabama on May 17, 1955. While his presence will be deeply missed, his legacy of love, service, and kindness will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
A decorated U.S.A.F. Veteran, Joel proudly served his country, earning numerous awards. His dedication to service didn’t end there, after his time in the military, he continued to serve his community.
Lieutenant Colonel Deas entered the United States Air Force Basic Military Training in 1974. He graduated from Officer Training School in 1979. He has a Master of Science Degree in Management. Since his commission in 1979, Lieutenant Colonel Deas has served in a variety of positions.
Preceded in death by his parents Harvey J. Deas and Ruby Lee Moseley Deas.
He is survived by his wife Leigh Deas, children; Heather (Chris) Harkness of Maryland and Heath Deas of Mandeville, LA., grandchildren; Cole Harkness and Chase Harkness, brother; Harvey Gerald (Theresa) Deas, sister Sylvia (Wright) McBride and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
Celebration of Life services will be at 11 am on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at St. Stephens Baptist Church with a visitation starting at 10 am.
