GREGORY R. EVANS

Gregory R. Evans (Greg), 86, of Rocky River, passed away on December 7, 2025. Born on August 10, 1939, to Joseph and Ann (nee Popovic), he lived a full and dedicated life marked by service, love, and curiosity. While born in Cleveland, Greg spent his youth divided between Wheeling West Virginia and Baltimore Maryland, before moving back to Northeast Ohio. Once married and starting his own family, Greg settled in Rocky River, a community he cherished.

Greg met the love of his life, Joan (Knapp), through the Catholic Alumni Club, and after a short courtship, the two were married in August of 1971. Together, they built a life grounded in faith, family and were blessed with their daughter, Marie, whom he adored.

A lifelong educator, Gregory taught in the Cleveland school system for 36 years. Amongst his many teaching accomplishments, Greg helped pilot Accounting and Computer Data Processing in the vocational program at John Marshall High School in the early 1980's. He was popular amongst his students and was known for his humor and unwavering commitment to helping his students succeed.

Beyond the classroom, he was skilled in woodworking and found joy in spending time in his workshop building and refurbishing furniture for family, neighbors and friends. Gregory was also an avid traveler who delighted in exploring new places and cultures with the Catholic Alumni Club and later on with the Singing Angels, in which his daughter performed.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Joan; his cherished daughter, Marie; sister, Joann (Honohan); and many extended family members and friends whose lives were brightened by his sense of humor, generosity and larger than life spirit.

Funeral Mass Saturday, December 13, 2025 at 10 a.m at St. Christopher Church, 20141 Detroit Rd. Rocky River, OH 44116. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery. FRIENDS RECEIVED AT THE BERRY-McGREEVEY-MARTENS FUNERAL HOME, 26691 DETROIT RD. WESTLAKE, OH 44145 FROM 6-8 P.M. FRIDAY AND AT CHURCH FROM 9-10 A.M. SATURDAY.
