Gregory Gentry Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home - Hagerstown on Dec. 29, 2025.
Gregory Rierson Gentry, 73, of Hagerstown, MD passed from this life on December 20, 2025.
Born August 9, 1952, in Charleston, WV, he was the eldest of three children. Greg was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Janet Gentry; and by his sister, Susan Sowers.
Greg spent his teenage years in Bethel Park, PA. Following his high school graduation he moved with his family to Hagerstown where he earned an Associate degree from Hagerstown Junior College. After serving as the hotel manager at the local Holiday Inn, he subsequently joined the sales team at Churchill Distributors where he worked until his retirement.
Greg had a passion for sports and was a promising athlete prior to a life changing injury at the age of 20. He never met a stranger and despite the many challenges that life threw his way, he always found a way to be the life of the party. He loved gathering with friends and family, his Myrtle Beach vacation house, sports, politics and old movies. As his disabilities and illness worsened he was supported by many along the way, but especially by his late sister Susan who was his angel on earth. Greg lived his life with courage and humor, and we will miss him terribly.
Greg was grateful for his many deep friendships, especially Mike and Laurie Dingle, their daughter Nicole, and Paul and Joyce Orndorff. The family wishes to express our deep gratitude to his health care providers, in particular, Dr.Victoria Giffi for both her exceptional care and her many kindnesses to Greg and the family over the past six years.
Greg is survived by his brother, Michael Gentry (Penelope); his three nephews, Christopher Sowers (Mel), Jeremy Sowers (Ashley), and Mark Gentry; grandniece Olivia Sowers; and cousins.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
In remembrance of Greg the family suggests memorial donations to NMDP (nmdp.org) or other charity of choice.
