Gregory Gilman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Louisiana Funeral Services & Crematory - Broussard on Dec. 10, 2025.
Gregory Hugh Gilman, born on May 5, 1947, passed away on December 3, 2025, at the age of 78.

Hugh is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Kay Bray Gilman. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mable Gilman. As their only child, Greg shared a close bond with his family throughout his life.

Greg married Kay in 1969 and proudly served his country as a United States Marine during the Vietnam War. After his military service, he discovered a deep passion for photography and later earned his college degree in photography in Texas. While he enjoyed capturing all kinds of subjects, he built a successful career as a commercial photographer.

Free-spirited, adventurous and carrying with him a bit of hippie spirit Greg and Kay eventually made their way to Natchitoches, LA, where he found a new love for jewelry-making. What began as a hobby grew into a calling; after taking formal courses, Greg went on to build a 20-year career at Stuller Jewelry.

In his free time, Greg and Kay loved to travel. They enjoyed hiking, backpacking, sightseeing, and simply exploring each new place together. One of their fondest memories was backpacking on Bainbridge Island off the coast of Seattle, Washington.

When he wasn't traveling, Greg could always be found tinkering with a project around the house. Creative and endlessly resourceful, he could fix or build just about anything-from fences, cabinets, and beds to designing and constructing an entire water system on his own.

Very sociable and outgoing, Greg enjoyed company, cooking and entertaining his guests. He always looked forward to the weekly tradition of "Monday Monge" a lively gathering of his neighbors of the Saint Streets where he will be deeply missed.

No formal services are scheduled at this time. A celebration of life may be held at a later date. To honor Gregs wishes his remains will eventually be released in one of his favorite destinations.
