Gregory Moore Gorog passed away Thursday, March 27, 2025, at the age of 35. Born in Fairfax County, he was raised in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
He attended First Colonial High School, graduated from Bishop Sullivan Catholic School and earned his BS in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 2011.
Gregory lived a life of adventure, creativity, and deep faith. Throughout the years, he called many places home, most recently fulfilling a lifelong dream of owning a house on the water in Merritt Island, Florida. In his final days, he returned to Virginia Beach to be close to his family.
Greg's love for problem-solving and the ocean shaped his career, leading him to spend his professional life in the marine industry. He worked for Cummins, Volvo, and Mercury Marine, where he applied his engineering expertise to advancing marine technology. In 2017, he took a step away from his career to explore the world on his own terms. He traveled more than most do in a lifetime, with some of his most remarkable journeys taking him to Chili, India, Cuba, Ukraine, Vietnam, Scotland, Hungary, and the Caribbean, only to name a few.
Greg's faith was the cornerstone of his life. He firmly believed in the teachings of the Catholic Church and, in his final years, practiced with unwavering sincerity and devotion. His commitment to his faith was constant, shaping his actions, guiding his decisions, and bringing him peace.
Beyond his professional accomplishments and spiritual dedication, Greg possessed a rare and remarkable talent for anything he set his mind to. Whether writing music, surfing, dancing, or practicing yoga, he approached every pursuit with passion and mastery, excelling with a natural ease that inspired those around him.
Gregory is survived by his parents, Jonathan and Susan Moore Gorog, brothers Jonathan Gorog (Anna), and Colby Gorog, sister Kelly Gorog Gray (Luke), nieces Eliana and Annie, nephew Augustine and countless Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and Friends, left behind, who will forever carry his spirit in the lessons he taught, the laughter he sparked, and the love he so freely gave.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Chesapeake, VA, on Friday, April 4 at 1:00 p.m., followed by burial at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk, VA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Benedict's Catholic Church.

Greg and I worked together at Mercury. During a work conference walking home from dinner, a vehicle lost control and drove up on the sidewalk towards us. Greg pulled me out of the way at the last second. He saved me from terrible injury or possibly worse. I will forever be in debt to him. He was a great man and will be missed deeply. RIP.

So sorry to hear of your passing Greg. You were an incredible technician that always dug deep to find a solution and get it fixed! I will always remember our time together on Vancouver Island and the stories we shared of our past. Together we launched the first V12's in Canada!

I feel better knowing that you will have the gates of heaven all serviced up and ready for the rest of us.

Thanks again for all of your help...see you again one day

I am so incredibly sorry for your loss. Greg and I went to school together, but I had the pleasure of getting to know Greg better through our days at Little Neck Swim and Racquet Club and at Virginia Tech. One of my favorite memories was a college summer night at the Gorog House. A few of us were on the dock; Greg had sprayed the fresh water from the hose into the Lynnhaven River creating a bioluminescence. That was the first time I had ever seen one and it was mesmerizing. I always appreciated his love for the water as well as for his friends and family. He will be missed.
