Jean Bowman

Jean Bowman passed away on February 3rd,2026 leaving behind a legacy of wit, elegance, and unmistakable presence. A woman of strong character and impeccable standards, she was known for her red lipstick and firecracker manner, carrying herself with confidence and quiet authority. Throughout her life, Jean shared a deep love for dogs, especially her cherished companion in her later years, Honey. She was also well known for her cooking, and many family traditions were built around her recipes-most notably her buttermilk pie, pound cake, homemade fudge, and Christmas sugar cookies generously covered in sprinkles.

Each evening at 5 PM, Jean enjoyed a Dewar's scotch with soda, a routine she upheld faithfully and without exception. Jean learned to knit from her father and later taught the skill to all of her grandchildren. She never missed a birthday or special occasion and always ensured a card was already on its way. She was a loyal friend, respected for her wit and humor, and for her ability to be both refined and formidable. Jean's presence was deeply felt by those who knew her well.

She is survived by her three children, Imrie (Susan), Lydia (Andy), Mary (Bill), and her five grandchildren, John Imrie (Kristina and Great Grand Daughter Katherine), Darby, Vance (Alli), Dylan, and Zack. Born in May 1933, Jean lived a life marked by intention and strength. She will be remembered and loved for her elegance, her consistency, and the many traditions she leaves behind. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 10th from 6:00–8:00 PM at HD Oliver Funeral Apartments, 2002 Laskin Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23454. A service will be held on Wednesday, February 11th at 2:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church, 300 36th Street, Virginia Beach, VA 23451, with a reception to follow at the church.
