Gregory "Greg" Don Haughn, 68 of Byhalia, passed away Saturday February 22, 2025 at the OSU Rhoades Hall Inpatient Hospice Center in Columbus, following extended illnesses.
He was born May 31, 1956 in Delaware to Mary Catherine (Tracy) and Samuel Haughn. Greg lived his entire life on the family farm in Byhalia, and was the fourth generation of his family to live and work there since Samuel P. Haughn first settled it in the 1800's. He was very proud to have successfully enrolled his farm into the Ohio Farmland Preservation Program before his passing. Caretaking of his immediate family members, including his parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles was his primary responsibility for much of his life. He considered that role his most important contribution. He continued to decorate and look after all his family's grave sites until this year.
Greg is survived by members of the Beard family in Byhalia, close friend Mickie Sager, all of his extended family around Ohio and his many friends from throughout the years from school, baling hay and work (and his cat). All of which he cared for deeply. He had an amazing photographic memory and was known as the family historian that could remember any names and dates when asked. After becoming certified ceramics teachers, he and Mary ran Gre-Mar Ceramics for over 25 years, which provided classes to many in the Richwood area. A lifelong fan of live music, he and Mary never missed a Marion Popcorn festival concert, and Greg traveled all over to attend many outdoor music performances.
Spending summer days on Lake Erie as a youngster with his mom and dad, were the fondest memories of his life. He cherished those trips with Sam and Mary and continued the tradition of visiting Marblehead each fall as an adult. In 2008 he began working at Lowes as a blind specialist, which he continued for 16 years. He enjoyed the work very much and was considered one of the top Lowes specialists in Ohio. As a youth he derived much enjoyment from his years in 4-H showing Holstein Cattle and traveling the country with the All-Ohio Youth Choir, that took him to the Rose Bowl twice, Europe and The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Funeral services will be held Thursday February 27, 2025 at 6:00 pm at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in Richwood. Pastor Joseph Rhea will officiate. Friends may call one hour prior to the service beginning at 5:00 pm at the funeral home in Richwood. Burial in the Byhalia Cemetery will take place at a later date.
Memorial gifts may be made to R.E.A.P. (the Richwood food pantry) at 235 Grove St. Richwood, Ohio 43344
