Gregory Kempf Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory on Oct. 31, 2023.
Gregory W. Kempf, 65, of Avon, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home on October 18, 2023, after a 3-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Greg was born November 6, 1957, in Wooster, Ohio, to the late Nicholas and June (Greiner) Kempf. Greg married Lynn (Hinshaw) Kempf on March 20, 1982. He graduated from Columbus Bishop Ready High School in 1975 and from Ohio State University in 1980. Greg later earned a Master’s degree from Purdue University in 1992.    Armed with a talented and bright mind for engineering, Greg was a design engineer for the Allison Division of General Motors for 39 years, retiring in 2020. Greg was passionate about our environment and devoted much time to those efforts through Citizens Climate Lobby (CCL), Carbon Neutral Indiana (CNI), and the Elders Climate Action. He had planted over three hundred trees and loved to distribute seedlings and trees to those who enjoyed them too. Greg was also passionate for bicycling. He was a longtime and devoted member of the Central Indiana Biking Association (CIBA).    His third passion was for his family, for which he loved immensely. His two grandchildren, Poppy and Rowan, were the impetus for their recent move to New Hampshire. Greg will be fondly remembered by his loving family and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Katherine Kempf. Survivors include his loving wife, Lynn; daughter, Erica (David Broughton) Kempf; brothers, Steven Kempf and Paul (Diane) Kempf; two grandchildren, Poppy and Rowan Broughton.    A Life Celebration® Memorial Visitation will be held Friday, November 10, 2023, 4 to 7 p.m. at the Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, 39 E. High Street, Mooresville. An informal memorial service, with an opportunity to share memories, will begin at 11 a.m., Saturday, November 11, 2023, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Carbon Neutral Indiana. Visit www.CarlisleBranson.com to share a favorite memory or to sign the online guest registry.

Greg's passion for reading, research, and environmentalism inspired him to write an unpublished novel. If you would like to read this work, download a copy here:
