Gregory Alan "Greg" Lewis

Gregory Alan Lewis, 72, of Pleasant Hill, IA, passed away on Friday, September 12, 2025, in Pleasant Hill.

Greg was born on February 4, 1953, in Des Moines, IA, the son of Keith and Thelma (Treanor) Lewis. He was educated in Des Moines and a proud graduate of East High School class of 1971. On May 12, 1979, he married Julie Kay at Lake Ahquabi State Park near Indianola, IA. The couple lived in southern Warren County before moving to Des Moines in 1981, where they made their home for 42 years before recently moving to Pleasant Hill.

Greg was a dedicated advocate for workers' rights and was actively involved in the labor movement with IAM Lodge 254 and then he worked with AFSCME Council 61, where he negotiated contracts and fought to protect employee rights. He was a diehard Democrat all his life, having worked on many campaigns.

In his free time, Greg was an avid fisherman, with a special love for catching largemouth bass, stripers, and trout on the fly. He also ran a fishing lure business called Uncle Lewie's Vintage Baits & Stuff.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Larry.

He is survived by his wife, Julie; his son, Vaughn (Christy) Lewis; his niece, Amanda (Roy) Mendoza; his nephew, Keith Lewis; and a great-nephew, Milo Belmares.

A memorial service to be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 19, 2025, at Iles-Grandview Park Chapel, where friends may call beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines, Iowa.

A Celebration of Life will be held at The Des Moines Police Officer's Recreation and Training Building is located at 5374 NE 12th Avenue in Pleasant Hill, Iowa, starting at 5:00 to 10:00 PM
