Saturday, July 6, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Rd., Monroe, LA, with Rev. Nat Barnett, Rev. Lane Thompson and Rev. Andy Myrick officiating. Greg was born September 17, 1954, in St. Marys Pennsylvania, and passed away July 1, 2024, in Monroe, LA. He was a member of New Iona Presbyterian Church.
Greg grew up the son of a pipelining family. His family traveled to many states, and he attended several different schools during his early years. Around the time Greg was eight or nine, the family settled into a new home on Rowland Rd. in Monroe, LA.
Lakeshore Elementary School and Swartz Junior High School were the schools he attended in Monroe. Greg graduated from Ouachita Parish High School in 1972 and attended Northeast LA University for 2 semesters. He then decided he would follow in his dad’s footsteps and pipeline.
Greg developed a love of rabbit and fox hunting as a youngster, spending time with his dad and great uncle, Newman Smith. He also began hunting other wild game with his dad. Greg continued to enjoy hunting exposing his children and grandchildren to the sport.
In December of 1973, Greg married his sweetheart, Sharon Farmer. Greg and Sharon built a life together raising three children and spending many good times together. Their camp on the river was the family’s special place.
Later in life, Greg continued to enjoy the river camp, where he and Kathy had many happy times with the children, grandchildren, and grandchild Connor who lived with he and Kathy for a time. Greg developed a special bond with Connor during that time.
Greg loved all his grandchildren and enjoyed their visits. Even when he was very ill, Greg would ask about each one by name.
During Greg’s last few years, his health declined immensely. Greg was no longer active, and this troubled him, but he did not give up.
The week before he passed, Greg decided his body could no longer continue this battle. He was ready to go home to the lord. He is now pain free and active with his heavenly family.
Greg was preceded in death by his father, Harvey Madden; wife, Sharon Madden; stepfather, Charles “Sub” Hayes; grandson, Hunter Madden; and son, Clent Madden.
Survivors include his mother, Pauline Hayes; Best friend, companion and “Boss”, Kathy Wyatt; sisters, Vicky Cummins (Percy), Valerie Madden; daughter, Tara Fifield (Dewayne); son, Wes Madden and his wife, Dana; daughter-in-law, Mandy Madden; and grandchildren, Cody, James, Ethan, Annmarie, Hayden, Mayce, Keegan, Connor, Scarlett, and Abbigail; as well as his nephews.
