Gregory Charles Masterson was greeted by his family with open arms into heaven on May 5, 2025. He was born in Detroit on October 21, 1953, the second oldest of seven kids. He tells many stories of his escapades as a young man. He was the first in his family to graduate from college. He had various jobs as a young man but ultimately chose a career in insurance sales. Greg was always a hard worker and a man of integrity. Even though his job was demanding, he persevered and became a top producer. He made many friends along the way. He initially worked for the Novara agency and considered Anthony Novara his lifelong mentor. He eventually formed a partnership with Thom Knabl and continued in that role until his retirement in September 2018.
Greg was a man of many passions, particularly bow and gun hunting. He also loved fishing of all kinds, particularly fishing for walleye on the Detroit River in the spring. He perfected his recurve bow shooting into an art form, and he won several competitions. Through the years he also achieved the level of second-degree Black Belt, which he was very proud of. Other interests included scuba diving and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle.
His favorite place to be was at his cottage at Higgins Lake. It always looked pristine inside and out. He had gone to Higgins Lake since he was a child and had countless memories. Some people considered him the best fisherman on the lake. He was either out in his boat before the sun came up or ice fishing. He also hunted in many nearby areas and almost always was successful.
Greg was definitely a people person. He loved to encourage others, and he was always ready to help anyone. He was very generous with his time, money and whatever assistance he could offer, including mentoring young people. Greg loved to share his strong faith and witness to others before they even knew what hit them! He also had a great sense of humor and could lighten up any situation.
Greg always prayed to his Lord and Savior and read his Bible faithfully. He was proud of his Catholic faith and volunteered for many roles at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Troy. When he was healthy, he attended Mass several times a week. He truly lived out his faith every day.
Greg was a loving spouse to his wife Linda, and they enjoyed 42 years of marriage. They had two children, Sean Masterson and Tara Boyd (Eric). He was so proud to witness the marriage of Tara and Eric, and he loved his son-in-law.
