Gregory McGrath Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Beyers Funeral Home & Crematory - Leesburg on Dec. 9, 2025.
With deep love and heavy hearts, the family of Gregory J. McGrath announces his passing on November 29, 2025, at the age of 70. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Greg grew up in Mt. Greenwood, raised his family in Evergreen Park before moving to Itasca, and later made his home in Yalaha, Florida, where he found joy, peace, and the open water he loved so much.

Greg was a devoted husband and the steady center of his family. A man of his word and someone who always placed family above all else, he loved fiercely and unconditionally. His greatest pride was the family he adored, and he showed it every day through his kindness, his strength, and his unwavering presence.

A true jack of all trades, Greg had every tool imaginable and never encountered a problem he couldn't fix - whether it was an engine, a household project, or a challenge a loved one was facing. He was always the first to lend a hand and the last to expect anything in return. When he wasn't helping others, he could be found on the water, boating under the sun and embracing the freedom he cherished.

Greg also proudly served in the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, a reflection of his lifelong dedication to service, community, and helping those around him.

Greg is survived by his loving wife, Marguerite McGrath (née Bull); his son, Sean McGrath, and Sean's wife, Angie; and his daughter, Kimberly Swaback (née McGrath), and her husband, Eric. He leaves behind nine cherished grandchildren: Owen, Delaney, Evan, Hudson, Griffin, Ryan, Emily, Hailey, and Brooke, each of whom brought tremendous joy to his life.

A Celebration of Life will be held in both Yalaha, Florida, and Chicago, Illinois. Service details will be announced once arrangements are finalized.

Greg will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy of love, generosity, and quiet strength will continue to live on in the many lives he touched. The family is forever grateful for the memories shared and the love he gave so freely.
