It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gregory Messam, who left us on September 4, 2024 at the age of 74. Greg was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, whose memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
Greg is survived by his devoted wife, Jackie Messam, with whom he shared 53 wonderful years of marriage. He was a proud father to two daughters, Jessica Behrns (married to Corey Behrns) and Nicole (Niki) Messam (married to Brian Renn). Gregory's legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Zoe, Gaby, and Emali Behrns, and Brianna and Brogan Renn. He was also a loving great-grandfather to Brooklyn and James Long. He is survived by his sister, Linda Peterson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Alberta Messam, and his brother, Lawrence Messam.
Greg's life was marked by his dedication to his family and his unwavering love and support for them. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and the joy he brought into the lives of those around him.
Greg had a passion for fishing, woodwork, wildlife, and music, especially the songs of Bob Dylan. He was a simple and quiet man, known for his sharp wit that often only those closest to him could hear. An amazing storyteller, Greg captivated many with his tales. He was sweet and loving, with a deep appreciation for the outdoors.
Though he was a teacher by degree, Greg spent his career as a paint buyer working tirelessly to provide for his family. Additionally, Greg joined AA in 1999, where he both received support and provided it to many others until his passing. He instilled great and simplistic values in his children and grandchildren, leaving a lasting legacy of love and wisdom. Greg's love for nature and the outdoors was evident in his hobbies, and he found peace and joy in the simplicity of life.
Greg's wit and humor were legendary among his family and friends. His stories, often filled with humor and wisdom, were a source of entertainment and learning for those who had the privilege of hearing them. His quiet demeanor and sharp intellect made him a beloved figure in his community.
There will not be a memorial service. Private burial and celebration will be held in the future.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a small donation to Ohio Parkinson Foundation Northeast Region.
Greg's family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all who have offered their support and condolences during this difficult time.

Our sincere apology for not knowing of Greg's passing and condolences for your loss. Greg and I worked together for many years at Forest City Home Centers and then again in Chicago. Although we've been out of touch I, too, remember his quick wit and storytelling attributes. He was a great co-worker and comrade to many of us.
