In Loving Memory of Gregory  “Greg” James Phillips
 
February 4, 1968 - February 12, 2024
 
Gregory “Greg” James Phillips, a beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend, peacefully passed away on February 12, 2024, in Gallatin, TN. Born on February 4, 1968, in Rochester, NY, Greg was a kind-hearted and humble soul who touched the lives of all who knew him.
 
Greg’s love for music was evident in every aspect of his life. Whether he was playing bass for his worship team at Community Bible Church, or performing in live concerts with Christian bands Footstool and Plain Jane, his passion for music shone through. He taught himself to play many instruments, including bass guitar, keyboards, and drums.  In high school and college, Greg used his musical talents playing trumpet for marching band and soprano in a drum and bugle corps.  
 
Outside of his musical endeavors, Greg found comfort being at home with his adoring wife, Susan, working outdoors, tending to his yard. Greg and Susan’s journey together was filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
 
Greg graduated high school at Aquinas Institute in 1986 and later earned a bachelor's degree from St. Bonaventure University. 

Early in his career, Greg worked in quality control for manufacturing.  His most recent employer was GEODIS, where he made a significant impact on his colleagues through his hard work and dedication. His gentle nature and willingness to lend a helping hand made him a valued member of the community.

 

Greg was preceded in death by his parents James and Carolyn Phillips, stepbrother Steven Plank, grandparents, and precious aunts, uncles, and cousins.
 
Greg is survived by his loving wife of eighteen years, Susan Key Phillips; sister Sara Hartzell (Derek), stepmother Nancy Phillips, as well as his stepsiblings Terri Hartzell, Don Plank, and Gary Plank.  He was a cherished uncle to Ethan Hartzell, Kaylin Hartzell, Nathan Hartzell, Samantha Key, and Michael Key (Autumn). He shared a deep bond with his extended family, including his father-in-law Jimmy Key, mother-in-law Mary Lou Key, brothers-in-law Steve Key and David "Ed" Key (Tammie).  Greg enjoyed being part of a large family with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
 
To honor Greg’s memory and celebrate his life, a Homegoing Celebration will be held on Sunday, February 18, 2024, at 4:00 pm at Community Bible Church with Pastor Jeremy Litts officiating. Active pallbearers will be family and friends.  Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Community Bible Church Praise & Worship Team and members of Footstool and Plain Jane bands.  Prior to the service, a public viewing will take place from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the same location. Friends, family, and colleagues are invited to come together to pay their respects and find solace in the loving memories they hold of Greg.  
  
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Safe Place for Animals (http://safeplaceforanimals.com) or Community Bible Church (http://cbcnashville.org), organizations that held a special place in Greg’s heart.
 
Though we mourn the loss of Greg Phillips, we take comfort in knowing that his spirit will live on through the memories he leaves behind. Let us celebrate his life, his love of music, and his unwavering devotion to his family. Greg’s service to others and humble spirit will forever hold a place in our hearts. May he find eternal peace and rest in the loving embrace of his Lord Jesus Christ
