I worked with Greg in Hollywood Division back in the early 1990's. We were both training officers and occasionally worked together when our probationary officers had the day off. Although I had not seen nor spoken with Greg since that time, I have thought about him many times in the years since. Greg was a smart, thoughtful, and excellent LAPD officer. He was funny and really enjoyable to work with. That is important when you consider that for the next eight hours he is right there next to you in the car watching your back while you watch his. Believe me, the time goes slow when you are partnered up with someone you have nothing in common with. Not a problem with Greg though. Just a wonderful guy full of life and intent on helping people.
My deepest condolences to the Renner family. We lost a good one in Greg. Rest in peace my friend.
Sincerely,
TIm Ennis

I had just thought of Greg on Sunday morning. I was playing back Saturday Night Live on my DVR and there was a bit about Appleton, Wisconsin. It made me remember how Greg, John Steffens and I had gone inner tubing on the Apple River in the summer of 1973, when I was on leave from the Navy. We floated past the designated haul-out point, and, subsequently, spent some time schlepping around Appleton looking for the inner tube concession.
It was later on Sunday when I got the news from Elaine. I am heartbroken and send all my love and sympathy to his immediate family.
