Gregory Tilley Obituary

Visit the Bright Funeral Home & Cremation Center website to view the full obituary.
Gregory Duane Tilley, 56, of Wake Forest, North Carolina, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on January 1, 2026. Born and raised in Wake Forest, Greg lived most of his life in the community he loved and faithfully called home.

Greg was a 1987 graduate of Wake Forest-Rolesville High School. Following graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a Boatswain's Mate Third Class (BM3) aboard the USS Tortuga (LSD-46) from 1988 to 1992. He continued his service in the Navy Reserves until 1996 and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. His service to our country was a source of deep pride for Greg and those who knew him.

Following his military service, Greg worked for several years as an automotive salesman with Leith, Inc.

Greg had an undeniable love for the outdoors and all things nature. He found joy at the beach, the lake, fishing, camping, four-wheeling, jet skiing, spending evenings gathered around a bonfire, or just simply being in the woods. A talented cook, Greg especially enjoyed preparing seafood for those he loved.

He also had a special place in his heart for dogs, particularly rescuing Carolina Dogs, and shared a deep bond with his sweet dog, Jesse. He had a true talent in training many dogs in his lifetime. In true Greg fashion, he also carried a lifelong love and fascination with Bigfoot, which brought laughter and joy to those around him.

Greg will be remembered for his service to his country, his incomparable personality, his loyalty and love for his family and friends, and his appreciation for God's creation. While he was always a Christian, in recent years he grew even closer in his walk with God, strengthening his faith and trust in the Lord. He lived with gratitude for God's blessings and found peace in knowing his life was held in God's hands.

Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Jo Ann Tilley and William Tilley, and his brother, Weldon Tilley.

He is survived by his niece, Brooke Tilley Fearrington and husband, Austin; niece, Elyse Tilley; sister-in-law, Theresa Tilley; cousins Michelle Bailey (Randy), Joey Kearney, Robbie Tilley (Sherri), Ray Wilkinson (Elizabeth), and Renee Lindsey; aunt and uncle Elaine and Larry Kearney; aunt Diane Barbour; and his beloved dog, Jesse.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Disable American Veterans Charity (DAV) at dav.org or Lending Paws A Hand, Inc. (LPAH) at lpah.org

A memorial service celebrating Greg's life will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Oak Grove Baptist Church, 2124 Oak Grove Church Rd., Youngsville, NC 27596.

Visitation will be held from 1:00–2:00 p.m., with the service beginning at 2:00 p.m.

A graveside service will follow at Wake Forest Cemetery.

"Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His faithful servants."
