GREGORY JAMES "GREG" WEST

1959 - 2025

Gregory "Greg" James West, 65, of Liberty, formerly of Whitneyville, passed away on Friday, August 15, 2025, at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia with his loving wife by his side. Greg was born on October 21, 1959, in Wellsboro, a son of James and Judith (Robinson) West. Greg and Julie (Schmouder) West were together for eight wonderful years before marrying on September 8, 2020.
Greg was a jack of all trades. There wasn't anything he couldn't figure out how to fix, build, or repair. Greg went above and beyond with everything he did in life. He was a giver not a taker and didn't expect anything back in return. Greg was a hard worker. He had several jobs before going to Dresser Rand in 1981 where he worked as a supervisor until they relocated to Bradford in 1991. Greg was then hired at Ward Manufacturing in Blossburg as a group leader where he worked his way up the ladder. In 2012, he took the opportunity as plant manager and project manager and oversaw the machine shop until he retired in 2022. Greg loved his job and took his job very seriously.
Greg was a member of the Whitneyville United Methodist Church but also attended other churches in the area. He was a member of the Wellsboro Moose and Wellsboro Social Club in Wellsboro and the Arnot Sportsman's Club where he met many friends and made acquaintances. He was also involved in the Grandsavers are Lifesavers Program and part of the NYOA racing.
Greg was a very likeable person and got along with everyone. Greg was an avid hunter and mechanic. He loved dirt bikes and racing. Greg also loved the family farm in Whitneyville where he spent many days and held many chicken BBQs with friends and family making memories.
Greg is survived by his loving wife, Julie (Schmouder) West of Liberty; sons, Erick West of New York and Ryan (Samantha Cox) West of Liberty; stepdaughters, Nichole (Rob) Harer of Liberty, Jessica (Quintin) Williams of Blossburg and Lacey (Cory) Hopkins of Liberty; grandchildren, Deven and Payten Harer, Hailey and Khloe Williams, Sawyer, Emerson, and Porter Hopkins, and Bentley and John West; sister, Charlan (Steve Moser) West of Whitneyville; and many nieces and nephews he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Elwood West; and a sister, Cheryl Becker.
Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday, August 23 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 637 South Main Street, Mansfield. A funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. with Pastor Harry Colegrove officiating. A life celebration chicken BBQ will be held after the service at the family property at 175 Scouten Hill Rd.
