Gregory A. Witthauer

Gregory Anton Witthauer, 81, of Hampstead, MD, passed away on June 6, 2025, at Bethania Home Care in Westminster, MD. Born March 15, 1944, in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late Henry Joseph Witthauer, Sr. and Mary Viola (née Adams) Witthauer. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth Margaret Wilfer Spencer Witthauer, who died in 2023. Mr. Witthauer earned his bachelor degree in computer science from Loyola College. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy Reserves. He was a volunteer EMT technician in the 1970s. He retired after 34 years with NSA where he was employed as a computer scientist and software engineer. He had been a member of the Knights of Columbus, Notre Dame Council, and was a member of the men's choir at the Shrine of the Little Flower Catholic Church. Lately, he had been a communicant of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Manchester, MD. He was a handyman and loved to tinker with things. He enjoyed buying and investigating the quality and power of new tools and new cars, and he trained for his pilot's license, having soloed. He participated in running and biking marathons. He was a perfectionist and enjoyed the preciseness of things. Surviving are his son, Gregory A. Witthauer II, of Dover, PA; daughter, Deborah Bennett, of Middle River, MD; stepdaughter, Karen Spencer Stephens, of Hampstead; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Dolores C. Webb, of Hampstead; and brother, Michael L. Witthauer Sr., of Abingdon, MD. He was predeceased by siblings Mary "Terese" Holloway, Joan Bertela Servary, Henry Joseph "Sonny" Witthauer Jr., Rev. Paul G. Witthauer, and Claire Taylor. The family will receive friends Thursday, June 12, 2025, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Eline Funeral Home, 934 South Main Street, Hampstead. A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 13, 2025, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Parkwood Cemetery, Baltimore.
