Greta Mae Smith, affectionately known as "Big G," passed away peacefully at the age of 57 on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. Greta fought a long and courageous battle with unwavering strength and faith.
Greta was born on October 10, 1967, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late Minnie Marie Wright. She grew up alongside her younger brother, Kenneth Baldwin, and her late sister, Nyesha Baldwin. In 1986, Greta graduated from Aiken High School, forming lifelong friendships that she cherished dearly.
Greta shared over 35 wonderful years with her late husband, Anthony Smith. Together, they built a beautiful life centered on love, family, and community. Known for her boundless love of children, Greta started her own childcare business, dedicating many years to nurturing and caring for little ones. She opened her heart and home to many children, raising them as her own with warmth, patience, and unconditional love.
Greta's radiant smile could light up any room. She was the life of the party, always ready to lend a helping hand, and had a special love for traveling and experiencing life to the fullest. In 2017, she relocated to Georgia following the passing of her beloved son, Deangelo Baldwin.
Greta leaves behind her two children, Amber and Geonte Smith, her cherished grandchildren, Iriana Baldwin, Carmya Spurling, Aaniyah Spurling, Carmelo Spurling, and Germany Smith; and her great-grandchildren, I'zayhay Dye and Gavin Morgan. She is also survived by her brother Kenneth Baldwin, 13 nieces and nephews, and a host of extended family members and dear friends who loved her deeply.
Although Greta's illness brought changes that were difficult for many to witness, her true spirit full of joy, kindness, and love will always be remembered. Let us hold tightly to the beautiful, fun, and uplifting memories shared with her, for that is the essence of the amazing woman she was.
Greta Mae "Big G" Smith will be forever loved, remembered, and missed.
