Gretchen Smith Obituary

Gretchen Marie Smith, 50, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2025. She was born on April 18, 1974 to Mary Jo (Phillipy) Smith and the late David Smith. Gretchen was a proud graduate of New Albany High School, where she completed her education in 1992, participating in various activities including the marching band and cheerleading.

Throughout her life, Gretchen embraced her passions with enthusiasm. A devoted fan of Kenny Chesney, she often lost herself in the joyful melodies of his music. Her love for entertainment was evident in her fondness for the television show Friends, which brought her numerous moments of laughter and connection. Gretchen cherished her trips to the beach, reveling in the sun and sand, and took great pleasure in the company of her four-legged companion, Phoebe.

Gretchen is lovingly remembered by her mother, Mary Jo (Phillipy) Smith, and her daughter, Kaylee Smith. Her family will profoundly miss her presence and the laughter she brought into their lives.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ernest and Pauline Phillipy, Albert and Carolyn Smith; her cousin, Marcie Chavez-Deckard; and her uncle, Jimmy Phillipy.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, located at 3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, with additional visitation on Friday after 9:00 a.m. A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home, followed by burial at Mount Tabor Cemetery.
