Gricelda Vargas-Hernandez, 52 of South Sioux City passed away suddenly on Saturday, November 1, 2025 from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. A Funeral Mass will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, November 7, 2025 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Visitation will be Thursday, November 6, 2025 from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. with vigil at 7:00 P.M. all held at the church. Burial will be at St. Michael Cemetery.

Gricelda was born the daughter of Ruben and Luz Maria Vargas on June 14, 1973 in Guadalajara, Mexico. She immigrated to the United States in 1989, spending a few years in California until moving to South Sioux City. She has been working at Tyson for the last 26 years.

Gricelda will be fondly remembered as a selfless caregiver and an angel on earth to so many. She was a devoted mother who poured endless love and care into her children, Emanuel and Araceli, who were the light of her life. Gricelda was also seen as a mother figure by her younger siblings, offering them constant support, wisdom, and affection.

Those who knew Gricelda will never forget her radiant smile and the beautiful innocence about her spirit. She had a pure and kind heart that naturally drew people in, making everyone feel seen, loved, and cared for.

She always put the needs of others before her own, giving freely of her time and resources. Her compassion knew no bounds, and her heart was a refuge for anyone in need.

Above all, Gricelda was a woman of deep faith who sought to live each day as a reflection of God’s love. Her compassion, humility, and warmth touched countless lives, and her legacy will continue to live on — especially in the hearts of her beloved children, Emanuel and Araceli.

Gricelda is survived by her children, Araceli Vargas and her fiancé, Dakotah Garrison Pawlowski and Emanuel Vargas; her siblings Manuel Vargas, Luis Vargas, Alejandro Vargas, Imelda Juarez-Vargas, Ruben Vargas and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Luz Maria and her brother Eduardo Vargas.
