Grover C. "Tiny" Bayes, 89, of Big Spring, passed away Monday, December 16, 2024 at his residence surrounded by his loved ones. He will lie in state from 10:00 am until 9:00 pm, Thursday, December 19, 2024 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm, Friday, December 20, 2024 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with interment at Mount Olive Memorial Park.
Tiny was born March 30, 1935 to parents Cleo (Grantham) and George Bayes in Knott, Texas. He married Bernell Fryar on June 14, 1954, and they were married for nearly 65 years. Tiny retired from Cosden Refinery after 32½ years of service. He loved the land and cotton farming, and he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be missed.
Tiny is survived by 2 sons: Eddie Bayes (Audrey); Gary Lee Bayes, and one daughter Trena Whitmire; his grandchildren: Amanda McCready (Dan), Samantha Rodriguez (Alex), Rick Dorsett (Beth), Krista Shea (Taylor), Cassidy Whitmire, Mandy Bingham (Travis), Brandon Scroggins (Jaymie), Nick Bayes, and 15 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren; and siblings: Bobbie Bayes, Robbie Harper and Jerry Neeley.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Bernell Bayes, and two brothers Glen Wayne Bayes and Jim Neeley.
