Grover Delano "Dee" Hill age 85, passed away peacefully on Wednesday
October 23, 2024, at Tidelands Waccamaw Hospital.
Dee was born on September 22 nd, 1939, in Vanceboro, NC to the late Ruth
Mae and Grover J. Hill of Vanceboro NC. Growing up Dee loved to spend
time with his five sisters, hunt and helping his grandfather and grandmother
tend the farm. Dee graduated from Farmlife Highschool in 1959, and was
drafted, as a pitcher, by the Baltimore Orioles. Dee went on to play
professional baseball with the Baltimore Orioles farm team from 1959 to
1968. In the off-season, Dee joined the IBEW, became a journeyman
electrician, and remained a member for 55 years. During his life Dee
became a beloved baseball manager, was an avid golfer, loved music and
loved spending time with his friends, family and grandchildren. Dee retired
in Murrells Inlet, SC where he and his brother in-law Autry Moore broke
golfing records up and down the grand strand. Dee never met a stranger
and was loved by all.
Dee is survived by his wife of 64 years Mary, his son; Robert and his wife
Jeannine Hill of Mt. Pleasant, SC, his daughter; Susan and her husband
Joe Moreira of Florence, SC, his grandchildren, Lauren and Evan Hill, and
his beloved sisters, Anne Williams of Chocowinity, NC and Jean Winkler of
Council, Idaho, as well as his many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will be holding a celebration of life service later.
