Guadalupe "Lupe" Escobedo Cruz 80 passed away October 17, 2025.
She was preceded in death by her sons, Jose Cruz Garcia, Pedro Cruz Garcia and Guillermo Escobedo Jr.
Guadalupe passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Friday October 17th after a long battle with lung disease. She was born on December 10, 1944 in Golondrinas, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to loving parents Santos Cruz and Jovita Machuca. She was born into a very large family of 11 siblings. She was married to Jose L Garcia in Mexico. They had two children born in Mexico. In 1965 she became a permanent resident of the United States and they had a child born in Laredo, Texas; afterwards they traveled throughout the US working as migrant workers and then eventually settled in Wisconsin and had another child. Soon after meeting her new husband, Guillermo Escobedo, and having a child the family settled in Milwaukee where they had their last child. Guadalupe spent a lot of time with her children making tamales which she sold to help earn money for the family. She lived a very big life always surrounded by people and food. Her two big milestones were becoming a US citizen and then a commissioner for SDC. She is mort known for her very long career as a deli worker where she met so many people, not only did those people become friends but they became family. She loved bringing people into her life and feeding them. Her kitchen was her center stage where she loved to shine. As soon as anyone came over she began cooking and made sure they ate (even if they weren't hungry), even in her final moments she was telling people to go eat and get food. She will forever be remembered for her tamales and tortillas which she always served whenever anyone came around. She will be greatly missed! Guadalupe is further survived by her husband Guillermo Escobedo and her children Adan C. Garcia, Diana Rodriguez and Guadalupe Wise, her 15 grandchildren: Diana, Adam, Anita, Erica, Samantha, Izavel, Santos, Alexis, Abraham, Lucianna, Eugene, Emilia, Terrell, Joel and Lorenzo and her 15 great grandchildren: Yvette, Milanni, Juan S., Juan A., Chiara, Jane, Lavon, Keilani, Apollo, Delyla, Lavaya, Aleela, Adonis, Sarai and Lavaedra, and one great great grandchild Xavier Yandel. She is further survived by many friends we now call family.
