Witkowiak Funeral Home - MilwaukeeHugh Simonsen was born in Janesville, Wisconsin into challenging family and social circumstances. Despite this, Hugh managed to raise a family of his own. Hugh eventually retired from medical practice and enjoyed playing piano and cello, and traveling to Europe. More recently, his was learning to play chess with the guidance of his good friend Doug. Hugh was also a talented artist and book binder. His greatest passion was genealogy, and he tirelessly researched not only his and his family’s history, but those of some of his friends. Hugh lived for more than 10 years at St. John’s on the Lake in Milwaukee Wisconsin and enjoyed the many friends he made there. Special thanks to Pastor Jim Greear formerly pastor at Hugh’s church, Mount Carmel Lutheran. Hugh Simonsen was preceded in death by his wife Judy. Hugh is survived by his two children, Charles and Martha, and his sweet kitty Heloise. Memorials may be made to Sojourner Family Peace Center or Almost Home Cat Rescue, both in Milwaukee.
