Marie Simonsen, loving and cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to many, passed away at her home on Tuesday, June 24, 2025. Marie was born in Newark, New Jersey on June 27, 1938. She was the youngest of six children and cherished her role as the 'baby of the family' throughout her life. She married her husband, Per Simonsen, on June 20, 1959 and they were married for 62 years before his passing in July 2021. She dedicated her life to her family and friends, and will be remembered for her deep Christian faith, her joyful Christmas traditions of personalized ornaments and lovingly baked cookies, and her gift for storytelling. She was gregarious and lived life with joy.
Marie is survived by her children and their spouses, Bonny Lee Ames, Geoffrey Ames, Cindy-Lou Orshonsky, John Orshonsky, and Peter Simonsen. She is also survived by her brother, Richard O'Neill of Punta Gorda, Florida and her six grandchildren and their spouses, Kathryn and Jeffrey Herridge, Alyssa and Michael Ames-Sikora, Kelly and Tyler Witt, Erik, Andrew, Derrick and three great grandchildren, Sophia, Penelope, and Rylie.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 30, 2025, at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 Route 10 Randolph, from 4:00pm – 8:00pm. A brief service will take place at 7:30pm (www.tuttlefh.com).
A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at 10:00am at the Cemetery of the First Presbyterian Church, 99 Main Street, Succasunna, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations in memory of Marie be made to Market Street Mission (https://www.marketstreet.org/donate/).
