Ms. Guadalupe (Lupe) Arzavala Henri, 91, of Lebanon, Illinois passed peacefully, surrounded by family, on Monday, November 3, 2025, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, O'Fallon, Illinois.
Lupe was born December 25, 1933 in San Francisco del Oro, Chihuahua, Mexico, the youngest child of the late Juan Arzavala and Maria de Jesus Mendez.
She is survived by her only child, Manuel (Manny) Arzavala (wife Laura); granddaughters: Stephanie Arzavala-Reed (husband Erik) and Jessica Arzavala; many Ochoa nieces and nephews; and four of her beloved parakeets. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Roberto, Celestino, Juana, Elvira, and Sofia.
At a young age Lupe moved to El Paso, Texas, in search of the American dream. For many decades she worked as a lead cook at Dieu Hospital, Ashley's Restaurant and Griggs Restaurant. In 1977, Manny joined the US Air Force, traveled the world, met Laura and began his family. In 1984, Lupe proudly became a naturalized citizen of the US. Years later, Lupe moved to Oklahoma to be with Manny and the family. After many years of service Lupe eventually retired from Picadilly's Restaurant. Lupe loved to cook for her family; their favorites being her pork chops, liver and onions, menudo, and buneulos (Mexican version of elephant ears), to name a few of her yummy dishes! She spent her final 23 years living with Manny and his family in Lebanon, Illinois. She enjoyed cooking, daily walks, gardening, raising parakeets and especially quilting with the O'Fallon Illinois Township ladies.
In summary, Lupe lived a long, fulfilling life, traveling the world with her son and his family.
In accordance with her wishes, she will be cremated with no formal services.
Lupe, you are forever loved and will be greatly missed. Thank you for being an awesome mother and grandmother. We will forever cherish many wonderful memories of you.
