Guadalupe "Lupe" Lara Padilla, 83, passed away November 15, 2025, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. She was born December 9, 1941, in Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico, to Antonio Murillo and Patrocinio Lara (Alba) Palacio.

Lupe graduated from Hutchinson High School, and attended Hutchinson Community College. Throughout her life, she held positions at several business, including St. Elizabeth Hospital, Hartmann Industries, Osco Drug, B. Dalton Bookseller, and Walgreens.

Above all else, Lupe cherished her family the most, her son, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her number one priority and nothing beat time spent with all of them. She also had an extraordinary ability to making everyone feel loved, by "adopting" everybody, and calling them her own.

Lupe was a devoted member of St. Teresa's Catholic Church, Hutchinson. Believing in the power of faith and prayer, she prayed the rosary every day at her husband's grave until her health began to falter.

On December of 1962, she married Jose "Pete" Padilla in Cosio, Aguascalientes, Mexico. They shared over 53 years of marriage, prior to his death on June 12, 2016.

Lupe is survived by: her son, Marcial Rivera and wife Marti of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Vincent and Victoria Rivera; 5 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews, who saw Lupe as a mom.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Pete; parents; brother, Cruz Palacio; and sisters, Juanita and Conchita Estrada.

Parish rosary will be 9:30 a.m., followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Friday, November 21, 2025, both at St. Teresa's Catholic Church, 225 E 5th Ave. Hutchinson, with Father Matt Marney officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may sign her memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, with family present to receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, November 20, 2025 at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Guadalupe Padilla Memorial Fund, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501. To benefit the memorial fund, please make checks payable to Elliott Mortuary.
