In Loving Memory of Guillermo Serna García;
Beloved Son, Brother, Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Friend
It is with deep sorrow and love that we announce the passing of Guillermo Serna García at the age of 81 years old on Sunday, October 5th, 2025. He was a devoted family man, respected educator, and cherished friend. He departed this life peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, wisdom, kindness, loyalty and love.
Guillermo was preceded in death by his parents, Guadalupe Serna and Ana Maria Garcia, and his siblings; Ramona, Belester, Blanca, Olga, Guadalupe, Dubelza, Rosalima, Nelida, Juan Angel and Juan Luis. He is survived by his sister, Antonia, and his wife of 54 years, Lilia, and his children; Lilith Vega (Eloy), Guillermo Serna Jr. (Claudia), Jose Ivan Serna ( Sandra), and Dahlia Calderon. He also leaves behind his grandchildren; Eloy, Melani, Franco, Ivan, Emma, Madelyn, Annabelle, Marcela, and Liam.
Born in Los Colorados, Nuevo León, Guillermo spent his early childhood on a beautiful ranch, a place he remembered fondly. His parents later moved the family to Sabinas Hidalgo, Nuevo León, in pursuit of better educational opportunities for their children. This decision set Guillermo on a lifelong path of learning and teaching. He began his studies at the historic Manuel M. Garcia Elementary School and graduated from Escuela Normal Pablo Livas as an educator. He later earned a Master's Degree in Education, specializing in Physics and Chemistry, further enriching his teaching career. Guillermo taught in various schools across Anáhuac, Villaldama, and Sabinas Hidalgo, making many acquaintances and forming many lasting friendships while earning the respect and admiration of countless students who still fondly refer to him as "Professor Guillermo Serna".
A gifted storyteller, Guillermo brought his experiences to life through vivid tales of his childhood on the ranch, his experiences growing up in Sabinas Hidalgo, his educational journey, his students, his time in the United States, but his best-loved narratives were about courting Lilia Villarreal, the beautiful woman who became his lifelong partner.
Above all, Guillermo was a family man; a loving husband, proud father and grandfather. His family was his greatest joy, and he poured his heart into every moment spent with them. His warmth, wisdom, and gentle spirit touched the lives of all who knew him. Whether through his words, his teachings, or his quiet acts of kindness, Guillermo made the world a better place.
