Gurmohan Singh Grewal

Gretchen Grewal lost her BEST FRIEND, Gurmohan, on December 25, 2024, at Mayo Healthcare in Sparta, WI. He enjoyed a wonderful life for 87 years, his birthday was October 4, 1938.
Gurmohan Singh Grewal, BS, Ph.D, MBA, was born in Ludhiana, Punjab, India on October 4,1938 to Mahindar Singh and Naran Kaur Grewal. He was the youngest of five children, all who preceded him in death.
Dr. Grewal received his early education at St. Mary's College, Southampton, England. He received his Bachelor of Science degree at Birmingham University, Birmingham, England, and his Masters and Ph.D in Electrical Engineering from Cincinnati University, Cincinnati, Ohio. He received an MBA from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, in 1986.
Dr. Grewal loved to teach and was a full Professor of Electrical Engineering at Southern University, collaborating with LSU from 1971 to 1999 in Baton Rouge, LA, when he retired to Sparta, WI with his wife Gretchen. Besides his teaching, Dr. Grewal worked for IBM, US Air Force, NASA, Jet Propulsion Lab-Caltech and General Electric. His area of expertise was Control Systems.
Gurmohan married Gretchen Helgeson on December 7,1974, in Baton Rouge, LA. The happy couple resided in Baton Rouge from December 1974 until retiring to Sparta in 2000 to be near family and friends; they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on December 7, 2024
Gurmohan's life was full of auspicious events, both personally and professionally. He was very talented; from small home projects to designing and supervising the construction of his home in Sparta, to mastering some Punjabi Indian cuisine. Being a world traveler, in 2015 he and Gretchen began construction of there Himalayan home on a cliff in Sanawar, Himachal Pradesh, India. He had a flare for everything! Gur loved to read and studied the French language in his spare time. He developed a deep caring for the large bird population in his own backyard, making sure that food was provided daily. He attended Trinity Lutheran Church with Gretchen, and was a member of Kiwanis International of Sparta.
Dr. Grewal is survived by his wife, Gretchen, Sister-in-law, Cynthia (David) Simpkinson, Sparta, cousins, nieces and nephews worldwide. He will be greatly missed along with his jubilant laughter.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, January 11, 2025, beginning at 12:00 noon and concluding at 2:00 p.m. with a prayer service, at Torkelson Funeral Home, 1132 Angelo Rd. Sparta, WI 54656.
