Gus Hogate Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Adams Funeral Home - Woodstown on Dec. 8, 2025.
Gus Edward Hogate, 62, of Gibbstown, passed away on December 1, 2025. Born in Mannington and raised in Penns Grove, Gus was the son of Belford S. II and Domenica (DiGiacinto) Hogate.

Gus graduated from Penns Grove High School and later retired from the Penns Grove Carneys Point Regional School District, where he proudly served on the maintenance team. Over the years, he also worked alongside Armand Verdicchio building homes, a job that fit his strong work ethic and his enjoyment of hands-on labor.

A man who loved the outdoors, Gus enjoyed camping, boating, and spending time at the beach. He especially loved eating crabs-a favorite pastime he looked forward to every season. Gus was also an avid softball player, competing in the Penns Grove, Carneys Point, and Pedricktown Men's Leagues as well as playing for Stubini's Bar. He spent many evenings playing darts at the Servicemen's Home and was well-known for staying up late into the night, never wanting to call it quits.

Gus is survived by his son, Augustino; his siblings Belford S. Hogate III and his wife Terri, Dave Hogate and his wife Betty, and Susan Hogate and her husband Scott, as well as many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. His parents and three siblings predeceased him: Lucy Hogate, Marie Reilly and her husband Edward, along with Stephen Hogate.

A Celebration of Gus's life will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at the Sakima Country Club, 383 Shell Rd., Carneys Point, NJ 08069, from 1 to 4 PM.
