Barbara Hogate

Barbara "Joyce" Hogate-Williams, 76, of Des Moines, passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. A memorial service will be held on December 12th, 2025, at Birdland Park at 12:00 p.m.

Joyce was born in Tracy, Iowa, on October 4, 1949, to Ellsworth and Opal Nadine (Calvert) Hogate Sr. She grew up in Tracy, Iowa and later, her family relocated to Des Moines. Joyce attended Lincoln High School and graduated with the class of 1967. Following school, she attended Drake University and Centerville College. Joyce married Alonzo Williams and the couple raised their family together in Des Moines. For over 25 years she worked at the Perkins by the airport before retiring.

Joyce loved being a mom and grandma. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Those left to cherish her loving memory are her children Alonzo Williams Jr., Scott (Lisa) Williams, and Christine Hogate; grandchildren Ashley Barbosa, Lauren Williams, Ashley Hogate, Mikayla Larson, Tre Williams, Scott Williams Jr., Maleah Hall, Che Hall, Jorhga Tidwell and K'Tiana Boutchee; great-grandchildren Arlon Harris, Leala Cortez, Messiah Cortez, Kayden Welding, Ashton Cortez, Demira Smith, Joy Cortez, Zion Hogate-Johnson, and Noah Hogate-Hopson; siblings Gale Mikota, Janet Nadine Hogate, Jill Augusta Kimberlin, and Melissa Marlene Hogate; a host of nieces and nephews; and many close friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Alonzo, siblings Ellsworth Hogate Jr., John Ransom Hogate, and Carolyn Christine Hogate, and daughter-in-law Anne Williams.
